IMG College and the University of Michigan extend and expand multimedia rights partnership

Aug 04, 2008

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- IMG College, a division of IMG Worldwide, and the University of Michigan today announced a 12-year extension to their marketing and media partnership. The new deal, worth $86 million, will make IMG College the exclusive holder of the Universities entire multi-media rights offerings. The new agreement will run through June 2020.

Under the agreement, IMG College's Michigan Sports Network will manage and market all rights associated with corporate sponsorships, hospitality, internet marketing and hosting, coaches' TV and radio shows, coaches' endorsements, printing rights, publication sales, and promotional use of Michigan indicia. Apparel rights and select other agreements will continue to be managed by the University.

Additionally, the agreement covers all game day radio broadcasts, and ancillary radio and television programming. All on-air talent is expected to remain the same.

"We're excited about leveraging the full capabilities of IMG College and extending our relationship with them," said Bill Martin, Director of Athletics for the University of Michigan. "They bring the innovation and resources needed to have an effective multimedia rights program, while still respecting the traditions of Michigan."

"The excitement around University of Michigan athletics builds every year," said Tom Stultz, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for IMG College. "It's been an honor to work with the University, and we look forward to continuing to grow its multimedia rights program."

IMG College and the University of Michigan have been partners for the past seven years. The expanded rights recently acquired by IMG College were previously handled in-house and by other third party partners.

Since IMG Worldwide began its focus on the college market in 2007, IMG College and its sister division, The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), have secured new and expanded rights with several major collegiate institutions. IMG College formed an alliance with CBS to represent the NCAA's sponsorship rights that recently yielded a corporate partnership deal with Hershey's. Additionally, IMG College has acquired new partnerships, or secured expanded multimedia rights partnerships, with the University of Oregon, the University of Nebraska, Gonzaga University, the Ohio Valley Conference, and printing rights for The Ohio State University. On the collegiate licensing side, CLC has added relationships with two Big East clients, Rutgers University and West Virginia University, along with long-term contract renewals with many other key partners.
