IMG College Creates New National Sales Organization; Lawton Logan Named Senior Vice President, U.S. Business Development

Dec 13, 2010

WINSTON SALEM, NC, December 9, 2010—IMG College, a division of IMG Worldwide, the global sports and media company, announced today that Lawton Logan has been named Senior Vice President, U.S. Business Development. Logan will also lead a newly established national college sales organization and will be based at the division’s headquarters in Winston Salem, NC and in New York, reporting to Ben Sutton, President of IMG College.

Six weeks ago IMG completed its acquisition of ISP Sports, a leading U.S. college media rights management company. The acquisition combined ISP with IMG's existing college sports group, making it the largest provider of marketing, licensing and media services to universities in the world.

As part of the integration of ISP into IMG College, the division is reorganizing its sales and marketing functions and assembling a team of talented professionals that will be fully dedicated to selling IMG College on a national level. This team will complement the work of some 350 sales persons who already are responsible for IMG College local sales and who are imbedded in the IMG College client schools across 49 of the 50 States.

“IMG has done a terrific job offering sponsorship opportunities to clients on the local level,” said Ben Sutton, President of IMG College. “With IMG’s acquisition of ISP, for the first time in the history of our industry, we believe we have the critical mass of rights to make the college marketplace significantly more attractive for sponsors seeking a national platform. Our goal is to offer a unified program that makes the college space easier for companies to navigate.”

With 176 million college sports fans, including 80 million female fans, 27 million fans with income of over $100,000, a large percentage of 18-28 year old fans, with great diversity, IMG believes the college market offers sponsors and advertisers significant opportunities.

In his new role, Logan will be responsible for Business Development activities for all of IMG’s businesses in North America and for all sponsorship sales, marketing and strategic partnerships for IMG College. He will also manage three new national sales offices in New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles.

“Lawton is a great choice for this new position,” said George Pyne, President of IMG’s Sports and Entertainment Group. “He’s done an excellent job and has a proven track record of success in motivating a large staff of sales professionals. I have great confidence in his ability to succeed in this challenging position.”

“We believe Lawton Logan will do an outstanding job in this new position,” Sutton said. “His knowledge of the College marketplace, his terrific interpersonal style and his proven managerial talents will be critical factors in his success.”

Previously, Logan was Senior Vice President of Collegiate Properties for IMG College and had oversight of IMG College's multimedia rights property group, which includes some of the most prestigious universities and conferences in the country. Logan was instrumental in the turnaround at Host Communications between 2004 and 2007, and eventual sale to IMG Worldwide. Since the acquisition by IMG, Logan has helped guide the growth of the multimedia rights business.

Before Host Communications, Logan had a successful career at WSB Sports Marketing, a division of Cox Broadcasting in Atlanta. Logan developed and sold sports marketing programs and promotional extensions for the radio broadcasts of the University of Georgia, Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks from 1996 until 2004.

Prior to his tenure at Cox, Logan worked with Hope-Beckham, Inc. in Atlanta, where he supervised marketing, staffing and stadium operations and was director of sponsorships and promotions for two years. Logan, a native of Savannah, GA, is a graduate of the University of Richmond and earned an MBA degree at Georgia State University. Logan is a board member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a member of the University of Richmond Alumni Association and the Georgia State MBA Club.
