Rice Brings Owls' Athletics to FLO TV

HOUSTON, Texas, (Feb 25, 2010) - With the start of baseball season this week, Rice University Department of Athletics today announced a license with FLO TV Incorporated that will provide fans on the go with an exciting new option to follow the action of Rice men's baseball. The move comes on the heels of FLO TV's successful coverage of Rice University's men's basketball season.

"We are thrilled to bring Rice baseball and basketball directly to our fans using FLO-TV's exciting new technology," said David Sayler, interim Director of Athletics, Rice University. "Rice is the first school in the country to make this option available, and we look forward to the opportunity to bring our fans even more coverage of Rice Sports."

"Live sports are a major draw for our viewers and consistently deliver some of our higher viewership numbers," said Bill Stone, president of FLO TV, a subsidiary of Qualcomm. "We're making it easy for Rice sports fans to stay connected to their favorite team."

All Rice home non-televised baseball games will be offered as part of FLO TV's lineup of programming, which can be accessed via FLO TV-enabled mobile phones, FLO TVTM Auto Entertainment in-car video systems, or on FLO TV's Personal Television, a dedicated handheld digital television device.

IMG College, which manages multimedia rights for Rice University Athletics as Rice Sports Properties, helped facilitate the deal.

"This agreement is the first of its kind in collegiate sports," said Russell Dean, General Manager of Rice Sports Properties. "We are thrilled to offer this cutting edge technology to our fans and alumni throughout the country. Our fans now have an even wider array of options to follow the Owls in action."

In addition to Rice home contests, FLO TV also offers a number of major sporting events that will be available on the nationwide FLO TV service - from March Madness and the NBA Finals to the Stanley Cup and every major tennis event, including Wimbledon and the U.S. and British Opens. In total, FLO TV plans to offer more than 3,000 hours of sports programming and more than 1,200 live sporting events this year from such partners as ABC Mobile, CBS Sports, ESPN Mobile TV, Fox Mobile and NBC 2Go.
