Executive Changes Focus IMG College Sales
Following Successful Integration of Acquired Businesses, Tom Stultz Transitions to Special Consultant; Roger VanDerSnick to Lead IMG College Sales and Marketing Team
Sep 12, 2011

Winston Salem, NC (September 12, 2011) – IMG College, the nation’s leading collegiate marketing company, today announced executive changes that align the company’s sales efforts, while focusing the reporting structure into President, Ben Sutton, Jr.

Tom Stultz, responsible for IMG College’s multimedia rights business as Senior Vice President and Managing Director for College Media will become a special consultant to Sutton working on several significant projects before leaving the company at the end of the year. Stultz, a longtime college sports veteran, was instrumental in adding many top national collegiate properties to Lexington, Ky.-based Host Communications, where he served as president and CEO and led the company’s financial turnaround before it was acquired by IMG in 2007. Recently, Stultz helped launch the Longhorn Network, an innovative partnership between the University of Texas, IMG College and ESPN, creating the first-of-its-kind network dedicated solely to the Texas Longhorns.

Roger VanDerSnick, who joined the company in April 2011 to assist Sutton on several key strategic initiatives, has been appointed Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for IMG College. He will oversee the company’s multi-media rights sales organization, which includes the development and management of marketing assets at more than 90 NCAA universities and conferences, as well as the company’s sales team at the national and property levels.

VanDerSnick will be responsible for marketing, sales strategy, client management, and developing IMG’s collegiate properties. He will work closely with Lawton Logan, Senior Vice President—U.S. Business Development, and Doug Gillin, Senior Vice President—Collegiate Property Sales, to lead a sales team of 350 professionals focused on the continued development of the unique assets and opportunities available through the unprecedented national collegiate sales platform created by IMG College. Logan and Gillin will report to VanDerSnick, though Logan will continue to report to IMG Sports & Entertainment President George Pyne on non-College, U.S. Business Development activities.

“Above all, I first want to thank Tom Stultz for his dedicated service to IMG College. We are grateful for his extraordinary service, and I am personally appreciative that he is going to stay on a little longer to help us with several important projects,” Sutton said. “Tom has enjoyed an impactful career in college sports, and he played a very important role in successfully integrating Host and later ISP, into IMG College, which is now the premier national marketing platform in college sports. He is a consummate professional, a true gentleman and great friend to many of us in and around college sports.”

“It has been a great ride since joining Host in 2004,” Stultz said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed the work and the wonderful people. I remain a strong advocate for IMG's efforts to transform collegiate marketing. I want IMG College to achieve its goals because I believe in the strategy and because I want to see its team members and university partners continue to prosper.”

Stultz said he is exploring several potential opportunities in sports and outside of sports. Prior to joining Host, Stultz had a long career in the newspaper industry where he was President and CEO of Triple Crown Media, Inc. and also of the publishing group owned by Gray Television, Inc.

“With the integration of the CLC, Host, ISP Sports and IMG College businesses nearly complete, the timing is right to create a single executive position with responsibility for strategic development and oversight of our sales efforts. This is particularly important as we prospect for national business while considering regional and local rights arrangements and sales efforts at dozens of schools,” Sutton said. “Roger VanDerSnick brings a wealth of experience and wisdom to this key role. The team led by Roger—with Lawton Logan leading our fledgling, but already successful national sales effort, and Doug Gillin heading up the largest and most experienced local sales force in all of sports—is a tremendous combination. With this triumvirate leading a talented group of passionate sales professionals across the country, we will create unprecedented opportunities for companies to tap into the passion and loyalty of 172 million college sports fans.”

VanDerSnick previously served as the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of International Speedway Corp., the largest track operator in NASCAR. Prior to ISC, he was Vice President of Marketing at NASCAR. Before helping to build NASCAR’s brand during a period of robust growth, VanDerSnick spent 15 years at The Procter & Gamble Co.

VanDerSnick will report directly to IMG College President Ben Sutton. Through recent senior hires and appointments, the divisional reporting structure into Sutton has been more effectively streamlined to four executives:

• Tony Crispino, Chief Operating Officer, who manages all internal operations including Human Resources, Finance (led by Chief Financial Officer, Joe Weatherly), and IT; IDEAS, the company’s award-winning training, development and customer service department (directed by Senior Vice President, Kelli Hilliard); the College legal practice (managed by General Counsel, Lou Doherty); and Media Operations (radio, TV, publishing, new media and out-of-home), led by industry veteran, Senior Vice President, Joe Potter.

• Mark Dyer, Senior Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer, who is responsible for all ancillary business lines including IMG College’s industry-leading stadium seating business, its extraordinarily successful ticket solutions unit, as well as oversight of the IMG College licensing business (Collegiate Licensing Company), which is managed by Senior Vice President, Cory Moss.

• Andrew Giangola, Vice President of Strategic Communications, whose team is focused on building the IMG College brand, telling the success stories of the people, progress and properties of IMG College, adding value to company partners, and bolstering internal communications.

• Roger VanDerSnick, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, with key reports including Lawton Logan, Senior Vice President—U.S. Business Development, and Doug Gillin, Senior Vice President—Collegiate Property Sales.

“This is an exciting time for our team at IMG College. The recent and soon-to-be-announced deals on the national sales side of our business, the incredible immediate growth of our stadium seating and ticketing business, and the continued robust development of our core multi-media and licensing business lines validate and affirm our decision to fold ISP into IMG last year,” Sutton said. “The vision and belief that Ted Forstmann, Mike Dolan and George Pyne had in the spectacular potential of college sports is certainly beginning to be revealed.”
