Penn State, Syracuse, Richmond and UNLV Partner with IMG College Ticket Solutions

Winston-Salem, NC (October 3, 2011) – IMG College has announced four new partnerships to enhance athletic ticket sales for Penn State, Syracuse University, Richmond, and UNLV. After entering the ticket solutions business this year, and setting sales records with University of Tennessee and UTSA, IMG College now has ten university partners.

For Penn State, Syracuse, and UNLV, IMG College will recruit and develop professional in-house sales and marketing staffs who operate within and as official representatives of the athletics department. Richmond will be will be serviced from a new dedicated Sales Center in the Winston-Salem headquarters of IMG College under the supervision of Chris Bain, focused on selling men’s basketball tickets.

IMG College builds on a business relationship at Penn State that began in licensing through Collegiate Licensing Company, the company’s licensing division. The IMG College team, working from its sales center at Beaver Stadium, will sell tickets to football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and hockey. The 2012-13 season will be the first year for men’s and women’s varsity hockey at Penn State.

The General Manager for the Penn State program, Brad Sexton, worked under industry innovator Matt DiFebo at UCF during an effort that revolutionized ticket sales in intercollegiate athletics. Sexton also managed the successful ticket sales initiative at South Alabama and is the third general manager from DiFebo’s staff at UCF to join IMG College. At Syracuse University, IMG College Ticket Solutions, under the direction of General Manager Cory Rowe, will assist in maximizing ticket sales for football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and lacrosse by adding resources and capabilities to the professional sales staff located within the school’s athletic department.

“We’re partnering with the biggest name in sports marketing to increase the sophistication of our in-house sales staff and build on their successes across four sports,” said Dr. Daryl Gross, Director of Athletics at Syracuse University. “By enhancing our outreach and customer service, we’ll make things easier for fans and provide them even more attractive options for attending our athletic events. We are looking to the experts at IMG to help ‘New York’s College Team’ reach a much larger audience, including the substantial number of alumni living in New York City.”

The new effort will place particular emphasis on Syracuse football, which has strong momentum coming off the 2010 New Era Pinstripe Bowl Championship at Yankee Stadium. In men’s basketball, while the Orange have drawn the eight largest on-campus crowds in NCAA history, the University expects the increased marketing efforts will result in the sale of more tickets at the Carrier Dome throughout the season. IMG College has been a long-standing partner of Syracuse University, managing the school’s multimedia rights, licensing, and stadium seat rentals.

At UNLV, the IMG Sales team, led by General Manager Mike Ostrowski, will be selling football and men’s basketball tickets, focused on season and partial plans as well as group ticket sales. The team will be working out of Sam Boyd Stadium, where UNLV plays football. IMG College manages UNLV’s multimedia rights. During tough economic times, the IMG College ticketing partnership offers new resources with minimal risk, according to UNLV Director of Athletics Jim Livengood.

“The partnership with IMG Ticketing Solutions offers us a creative option to increase our ticketing resources and enhance our revenue streams,” Livengood said. “The IMG team is an extension of our own department, and we are confident they will be able to take advantage of our increased efforts in the community to build awareness and excitement around UNLV Athletics. They will be asking fans for the buy on a daily basis, which is a very important piece of the sales and marketing puzzle that has been missing from our department. We are expecting positive results, and we are confident we’ll get them from this relationship.”

“We are certainly gratified by the fast growth of this business unit at IMG College, but we’re even more excited about the across-the-board results we’re producing for our partners,” said Mark Dyer, Chief Innovation Officer for IMG College. “Tennessee recently became the fastest school to reach a million dollars in revenue in the history of college ticket sales outsourcing, and we were part of another record at the University of Texas San Antonio as the largest crowd in history witnessed the first-ever game of a startup college football team.

“While the IMG name – and the resources behind it – is attractive to schools, the results we’re delivering are ultimately driving schools to sign up. We’re doing that with a strong management team led by Matt DiFebo, and we’ve emphasized staffing these projects with dynamic general managers and account executives.”

“In these partnerships, we’re taking this opportunity to listen to the fans, be more proactive, and take ticket sales to a new level,” said Matt DiFebo, Vice President of IMG College, who sold his pioneering ticket sales company DiFebo Company to IMG to become part of its newly created Business Ventures Division. “We’re ecstatic to be working on selling experiences to last a lifetime for fans at Syracuse, Penn State and UNLV and assist their efforts to provide the best resources for their student-athletes.”
