Saint Mary's College and IMG Announce Partnership With Treasury Wine Estates

MORAGA, Calif., (Jan. 12, 2011) – Saint Mary’s College (SMC) Department of Athletics and IMG College, a division of IMG Worldwide, the College’s exclusive third party sales representative for corporate sponsorships, announced today that SMC has formed a partnership with Treasury Wine Estates through the 2011-12 school year.

Treasury Wine Estates, an internationally recognized wine group that is headquartered in Australia and has a strong business in the Americas, partnered with Saint Mary’s because of the parallels between the values and visions of its company and the basketball program, fans, and alumni of Saint Mary’s College.

“There are many synergies between Treasury Wine Estates and the Saint Mary’s basketball program,” said Debbie DuBois head of channel marketing for Treasury Wine Estates. “After seeing the large role Australia has played in the success of the program, as well as witnessing how dedicated and passionate the season ticket holders and alumni are, we at Treasury Wine Estates think this is the perfect partnership.”

Saint Mary’s College has historically been a landing place for Australian athletes, and as a result receives support from, and exposure to, the Australian community. During the 2009-10 season, SMC had 15 of its men’s basketball games televised in Australia on ESPN Pacific Rim.

The new agreement will provide Treasury Wine Estates branding and marketing opportunities through pre-game socials and off-site events held for Saint Mary’s College basketball season ticket holders, fans, and alumni. The first Treasury Wine Estates sponsored event will be a pre-game social in the Soda Center prior to the Saint Mary’s game on January 15th against Santa Clara.

Other events include a viewing of the Saint Mary’s away game against Gonzaga at Treasury Wine Estates ‘Cellar 360’ location in Ghirardelli Square on January 27th, a second on-campus pre-game social prior to the February 24th Gonzaga game, and an end of the season gathering at a Treasury Wine Estates winery to be determined at a later date.

Additionally, as part of the partnership, Treasury Wine Estates will support St. Mary’s athletic scholarships through a newly created SMC wine club for alumni, season ticket holders, and fans.

With a total fan base of more than 172 million fans, 77 million of which are female fans who influence buying decisions, the college sports market is a an ideal platform for companies like Treasury Wine Estates. The college market’s affluent fan base, with more than 29 million college fans earning more than $100 thousand, and 17 million fans between the ages of 18 – 24, provides a key consumer audience.

Treasury Wine Estates will be able to tap into a share of the college market through this new sponsorship with St. Mary's.
