Expanding Its Line of Collegiate Services, IMG College Names Jim Connelly to New Leadership Post
Mark Dyer to Lead New Business Venture
Nov 05, 2012

Winston-Salem, N.C. (November 5, 2012) – IMG College, a division of IMG Worldwide, today named Jim Connelly to its executive team, as the nation’s leading collegiate sports marketing agency expands its suite of services for collegiate partners.

In this new Senior Vice President role reporting to IMG College President Ben C. Sutton Jr., Connelly will manage the company’s new Stadium and Arena Enhancement initiative, as well as general oversight of the company’s very successful licensing affiliate, The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), which serves as the trademark licensing representative for more than 200 collegiate properties. Connelly is working out of the IMG College offices in New York.

IMG College SVP and Chief Innovation Officer Mark Dyer, who has had oversight of both CLC and the Business Ventures division for the past two years, will now focus on expansion of the latter, including executive leadership of a new collegiate venture expected to be announced in late fourth quarter. For the past two years, Dyer has overseen the rapid development of IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions, which has secured 22 partnerships since launching in early 2011, as well as oversight for IMG College Seating, which has grown to include 108 collegiate partners. Cory Moss, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of CLC, will continue to manage the day-to-day operations of the college Licensing business, which was recently named trademark licensing representative for Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Furman and announced a major business renewal at Notre Dame. Moss will report to Connelly.

Connelly has held top executive positions for leading professional sports leagues, entertainment companies and consumer product/leisure industry brands. Most recently, he was responsible for global licensing, home entertainment, event merchandising and on-line sales for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), areas accounting for more than one quarter of WWE worldwide revenues. Connelly spent the bulk of his career – 25 years – at the National Football League, serving in various roles, including running the league’s European operations, leading NFL’s $3-billion consumer products business, increasing overseas merchandise sales from $4 million to over $250 million annually, and launching new product categories including NFL women’s apparel and the first-ever NFL home shopping cable network weekly show.

“As our team at IMG College continues to develop solution-based businesses for our college and university partners, we are adding to our executive team some of the top talent in sports marketing. Our goal is to maximize the enormous potential of IMG College’s human capital, expanded service offerings and nationwide platform of multi-media rights to best serve our university, sponsor, media, and licensing partners,” said Ben C. Sutton Jr., President of IMG College. “Jim Connelly has a truly outstanding record of performance with some of the world’s most important venues, biggest events, best brands, and largest retailers. IMG College will benefit enormously from Jim’s diverse experience in creating incredible game-day experiences for fans and sponsors, brand marketing and development, and sponsorship sales.

“We’re also extraordinarily excited about three new business lines in the developmental stage which we plan to roll out later in fourth quarter or early in 2013. Based on his track-record of building businesses—doubling the size of our Seating business, developing a Ticketing business from a ‘standing start’ to nearly two dozen partnerships in less than two years—I have supreme confidence in Mark Dyer’s ability to build a dynamic new business in response to the market. And I couldn’t be more pleased with the team Cory Moss has put together at CLC—their incredible results in terms of both expanding current relationships, as well as developing new partnerships—speaks for itself,” Sutton said.

“We are pursuing a strategic approach to building this organization to take best advantage of the growing demand for college sports by offering services of great value to our partners,” Sutton added. “We are organized and staffed to go to market in a smarter, more strategic, and more collaborative fashion, benefiting our partners and helping to grow the brand of college sports.”
