Hunter Nickell Joins IMG College Executive Team

Apr 30, 2012

Winston-Salem, NC (April 30, 2012) – As the company continues to expand and launch new business lines serving its collegiate partners, IMG College has added Hunter Nickell, former president of SPEED, to its executive team as Senior Vice President—Partnership Management and Business Development, the company announced today.

In this new senior position at IMG College, Nickell will oversee business development and partnership management for all of the company’s business lines—multimedia, licensing, stadium seating, and ticketing, as well as assist in the development of new businesses—working closely with IMG College President Ben Sutton and the leaders of each of those business lines. A critical part of the role will be to ensure each new business launch can benefit all IMG College partners, a list presently including more than 200 universities, conferences, bowls, and other collegiate institutions coast-to-coast.

“IMG College is a dynamic, rapidly growing enterprise that will continue to create and develop solutions-based businesses to help colleges and universities become more successful. We will greatly benefit from the steady hand of a seasoned executive like Hunter Nickell who has built and grown businesses and will help us strategically maximize both current and future opportunities,” IMG College President Ben Sutton said. “Hunter is a person of tremendous integrity who enjoys long and meaningful relationships with many of our partner athletic directors, coaches, and commissioners. He’s a natural for this important strategic position.”

Nickell will join the IMG College executive team on May 1, reporting directly to Sutton. He will also work closely with Chief Operating Officer Tony Crispino, who heads the company’s strategic planning function.

IMG College will reorganize its business development function with the following executives reporting to Nickell:

• Janeen Lalik, a 15-year veteran of IMG College who has deep relationships across the industry, will continue in her role as VP-Business Development with primary focus on building on IMG College’s multimedia collegiate partnerships, which now total nearly 100 in number.

• Adam Raak, who was Director of New Business Administration, has been promoted to the new role of Assistant VP-Business Development. Raak will work exclusively with the leadership of IMG College’s burgeoning ancillary business units overseen by Senior Vice President Mark Dyer, including licensing, ticketing, and stadium seating.

• An additional Assistant VP-Business Development to be hired will work closely with Nickell and the IMG College executive team on special projects and the development of additional new business lines in the college space.

“To execute the mission of IMG College—driving revenue to schools to support their athletic and academic mission—we’ll continue to create and develop new products and services to meet the needs of our partners,” Sutton said. “Currently, IMG College has more than 200 licensing partners, nearly 100 multimedia and stadium seating partners each, and a dozen ticketing partnerships. As we roll out new business lines over the next three to five years, we will build as much opportunity as possible for our school partners and brand sponsors within each of those disciplines. Hunter will be the conduit and primary execution agent for this important strategic plan and work.”

From 2005 through January 2012, Nickell had served as President of SPEED, the nation’s first and foremost cable network dedicated to motorsports and everything automotive. During his tenure at SPEED, the network’s distribution grew to more than 80 million homes while staff doubled. Previously, he spent 12 years as general manager of FSN South, where he was a member of the team that launched as SportSouth in 1990 and led its transition to the nation’s largest regional sports television network, providing premium regional sports programming to 10.6 million homes in seven southern states.

“IMG College is an aggressive company with a leadership team that has moved decisively to build the most effective national collegiate platform for marketers and partners,” Nickell said. “I am fired up to work with this terrific team, helping serve university, sponsor, and media partners across the country.”
