Apr 03, 2014

STORRS, Conn. (April 2, 2014) – UConn Men’s Basketball’s exciting and largely unexpected run to college basketball’s championship will be accompanied by literally taking the “Road to the Final Four”… from Connecticut to North Texas.

As part of the Huskies’ Road Warriors promotion with official partner Chevrolet, a Chevy Sonic painted with the school’s colors will make the trek from Connecticut to North Arlington, site of college basketball’s premier championship, this week.

UConn takes on University of Florida in the semifinal at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, attempting to earn a berth in Monday night’s title game. Alternating behind the wheel will be Erik Antico and Brett Greenfield, serving as the Chevy “Road Warriors” as they take Jonathan the Husky Dog and the Sonic cross country, covering a distance of 1,698 miles.  They’re expected to bring the UConn Chevy Sonic into North Arlington by late afternoon on April 5th.

Along the way, these “Road Warriors” will be visiting the states of CT, NY, PA, MD, DC, VA, TN, AR
and TX, handing out officially-licensed UConn merchandise, and posting photos on social media.  Fans can follow what promises to be an epic road trip on the official UConn Athletics Facebook ( and Twitter (@UConnHuskies) accounts.  Fans are also encouraged to share their favorite Road Warrior moments with the hashtags #UConn and #BleedBlue

“We’re very excited to be part of the Huskies’ incredible run this season and thrilled to support the Road Warriors’ journey in a Chevy Sonic to Texas,” said Tom Murphy, General Manager of UConn IMG Sports Marketing, which represents the multimedia rights and licensing program of UConn Athletics and brokered the Chevy sponsorship with the school.  “This is a fun and fast-moving initiative inspired by the rise of social media and the Huskies' incredible performance.  Schools and brands can react very quickly to opportunities like this and share instant memories with fans.”

William Fleck, Chevrolet Marketing Manager, Northeast Region added "Chevy would like to congratulate the Huskies.  We are very proud of our association with UConn basketball and have enjoyed their improbable run to the final four.  We are excited about the Sonic Road Warriors voyage to Dallas and think this will be a great way for Chevrolet to create excitement alongside the UConn fans."
The “Road Warriors” will head West at sunrise tomorrow with the hopes of returning to Storrs with another national championship in tow.

Chevy has been the official vehicle of UConn Basketball for the past two years.
